In 2009, I joined Morioka Seiko Instruments Inc. and was assigned to the watch assembly division. I have been in charge of adjusting the hairspring of the Caliber 9S series under Mr. Ito’s guidance since around 2011.
Adjusting hairspring is a delicate task that requires high concentration. Therefore, it can be said that it is a difficult process that only a limited number of watchmakers can execute. When customers say, “Grand Seiko is accurate,” I feel thrilled that our hard work has been rewarded.
A model featuring Caliber 9S64. Because it is manual winding and has a simple structure, the watchmaker’s skill is conspicuous. It can give me a sense of accomplishment, and I feel that my hard work is rewarded when I can adjust it accurately.
It is SLGH005 of the white birch dial. All the Grand Seiko movements have been beautiful, but Caliber 9SA5 is finished as beautifully as a work of art. With the “Shizukuishi River Finish” that can be seen from the see-through case back and the white birch dial, which is based on the motif of the Hiraniwa Plateau in Iwate, I think we can fully feel the rich nature of Iwate.
