Grand Seiko is a proud sponsor of the Horological Society of New York, one of the oldest continuously operating horological associations in the world. Founded in 1866, today’s membership is a rich tapestry of people from all walks of life, among them watchmakers, industry executives, journalists, auctioneers, historians, salespeople, and enthusiasts alike.
Grand Seiko has presented at HSNY twice in recent years. In 2019, Brand Curator and National Training Manager Joseph Kirk gave a talk on the history and mechanics of Spring Drive, with special guests Kazunori Hoshino and Akio Naito also joining. Mr. Hoshino began his career with Seiko Epson in 1996, and he is perhaps best known for his work with the Micro Artist Studio, designing movements such as the Credor 7R14 (Credor Eichi II), 9R01 (Grand Seiko 8 Day), and 9R02 (Grand Seiko SBGZ001, SBGZ003, and most recently SBGZ005). In 2020, Joseph Kirk returned to HSNY, this time virtually, to present caliber 9SA5 and the T0 Constant Force Tourbillon, both announced that year. Joining Mr. Kirk once more was Akio Naito, Chairman and CEO of Grand Seiko Corporation of America. Also presenting was Takuma Kawauchiya from the Product Development Department of Seiko Watch Corporation. Mr. Kawauchiya was responsible for the T0 Constant Force Tourbillon concept movement.
